Post What about socialization in home schooling?
on: April 22, 2013, 07:55

Every child develops natural socialization skills within the family that he/she grew up in. Socialization therefore starts in the family, where the child learns to interact with Adults, and possibly other siblings who might be older or younger than him/her. It is therefore an unnatural process to place the child in a class of 20-30 children, all the same age, and think that his/her socialization skills will improve. Normally he/she will then only learn to socialize on one specific age group level, and stress might develop within the household because he/she is only exposed to children of the same age level for the majority of the day. School is in any case not primarily for interaction and socialization, but for learning. Home schooled students are normally exposed to other children within the family first, and also at different activities during the week, for example church activities, art lessons, music lessons , sport etc. which does cater for the socialization need each child has.
